Who is behind this site and why should I trust what it says?
This is an independent information and referral service for Calgary homeowners. We do not repair foundations. The value we offer is that the content is researched, sourced and honest about uncertainty, including saying plainly when a foundation problem needs nothing done about it.

What this site is for
A homeowner who finds a crack in a basement wall has a specific problem: almost everything written about foundation repair is published by companies that sell foundation repair. That is not a conspiracy, it is just who writes about it, and it means the answer to "is this serious" skews reliably in one direction.
This site exists to give that homeowner the other half of the picture. Which cracks genuinely matter and which do not. What the published prices actually are, including where they contradict each other. What Calgary's climate and soils do to a foundation, with sources. Which cheap fixes to try before anyone excavates anything.

How the content is produced
These are the rules the site is built to, and several of them are enforced by automated tests rather than by good intentions.
Every figure has a source
Cost ranges are reproduced exactly as published, with the publisher, the publication date and the date we retrieved the page. Nothing is averaged, adjusted or interpolated, because a blended figure is a number no source published and no contractor will honour.
Sources that sell the service are labelled
Contractor marketing is still evidence, but it is not an independent index. Where a cost figure comes from a company that sells that work, the page says so.
Local claims are local, or they are not made
Calgary-specific statements about freeze-thaw cycling carry a citation. Where we describe a mechanism you can verify at your own house, we say that instead of dressing it up as measured data. No geological or engineering claim is invented.
Every problem page states what needs nothing
Each diagnostic page is required to list the versions of that symptom that are fine to monitor. That is a structural constraint in the content model, which makes an alarmist version of these pages impossible to write.
No manufactured trust
No reviews, no ratings, no testimonials, no project counts, no years in business, no invented credentials and no address. If a claim cannot be substantiated, it is cut rather than softened.
Uncertainty is stated
Where the honest answer is that it depends, or that two published sources disagree, the page says so and shows the disagreement rather than resolving it artificially.

What we are not claiming
Worth stating directly, since the absence of these is deliberate rather than an oversight.
We are not a contractor and hold no trade qualification. Nobody here is a professional engineer, and several pages point out where an engineer is the right person to involve. We have no office address, no completed project count and no reviews, because a referral service that has not done the work has none of those things to show.
We also cannot promise a response time. The contractor who receives your request sets their own schedule, and inventing a two-hour guarantee we do not control would be the exact kind of claim this site is built to avoid.
